After the concert we’ll have a jam and potluck for those interested in staying and playing, singing and sharing community.

                          

At this point we don’t know how many shows we’ll be able to produce in the future. It’s likely there will be occasional shows, but likely fewer than in these past three seasons.

The show and the afternoon workshop are full, but we are taking names for a waiting list. We suspect we will be able to squeeze in a few more folks, and if anyone cancels, we want to have a list of folks to call, so getting on the waiting list will be a good thing.

                          

Still River Concerts is a house concert series. The music is in our living room, where we seat up to 25 friends and neighbors. The acoustics are outstanding and all natural. We bring in folks who tour nationally, and internationally, as well as those who are less known and tour closer to home. You may have heard of some of the people, not of others, but all who perform put on a great show, and those who come out have a fabulous evening.

In three years of running these shows, we’ve had nights with lots of audience, and nights where not that many people came out. Sometimes there are lots of folks from town, other times nobody local. A big part of the purpose of hosting these shows is to bring acoustic music to the local community. Whether we continue to produce these shows is largely contingent on attendance. We have three shows remaining this season. After those are done, we will reflect and consider whether we will continue these shows in the future.

Carolyn Waters is a soulful singer and songwriter from the Boston area. She sings and writes in a variety of styles, and has a powerful, beautiful voice. Her songs are warm, sincere, some funny or sassy, always entertaining. Her interpretations of covers are stunning. Carolyn released her first CD last year.

Friction Farm is an acoustic duo of Aidan Quinn and Christine Stay. Known for original songs that reveal a fresh look at ordinary life, their sets are delightful and fun. Friction Farm recently completed a new CD.

Beth DeSombre is another Boston-based songwriter and performer. With a brand new CD, her second, she’s delved deeper into Americana with whit and story telling that draw the listener in.

And while Dan & Faith normally open the shows at Still River Concerts with a few songs, on this night they will be part of the feature, playing a set songs. Their debut CD came out recently.

                          

In 2002, I graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Mons, Belgium with a degree in classical vocal performance – at the head of my class. But I was already fed up with classical music – I couldn’t stand the division between performer and audience. And so I returned to the world of traveling, writing songs in train stations and sleeping on couches, then singing and playing on street corners, cafés, and pubs.

For a time I lived aboard a 20′ sailboat that I bought for $800, teaching myself how to sail by single-handing through the Baltic and North Seas with my guitar sleeping in the berth beside me at night. I wrote a book about the trip, which begins with the story of almost getting squashed by a tanker before dawn one morning in the North Sea.

My newest musical adventure is a song cycle based on “Einstein’s Dreams,” after the national bestseller by the same name. MIT physicist and poet Alan Lightman penned thirty sketches of what Einstein might have dreamed in the months leading up to his discovery of the theory of relativity. The result is more about our common humanity than a physics exercise: in one world, the river of time has eddies and back currents where people are sometimes caught. In another, time repeats itself verbatim, forever. In another, everyone knows the precise moment when the world will end: 26 September 1907.
